5-Day Seoul Itinerary: Neighbourhood Guide
AI illustration · Not an actual photograph

Five days in Seoul gives you enough time to move through the city's historic core, its creative neighbourhoods and its modern commercial districts at a comfortable pace, with room for one or two beauty or wellness appointments if that is part of your reason for visiting. This Seoul itinerary 5 days is built around that balance: a clear daily structure, honest guidance on where a beauty experience fits, and a flexible final day so the schedule can absorb the unexpected.

Only have a long weekend? Use our 3-day Seoul itinerary, which prioritises fewer neighbourhoods and a larger departure buffer.

A note before you read: This article is a travel-planning guide, not medical advice. Any skin, dental or Korean medicine consultation should be assessed by a qualified provider before you book. Use current provider profiles to compare areas and services before contacting a business.

Before You Schedule a Beauty Appointment

Seoul has a wide range of skin clinics, wellness studios and specialist providers, and it is tempting to book several appointments across the week. Before you do, four practical points are worth keeping in mind.

  • Confirm first, then build the day around it. Availability varies by provider and date. If one appointment matters most, confirm it before fixing the surrounding sightseeing plan.
  • Ask your provider about aftercare before you confirm. Some appointments involve redness, sensitivity or specific aftercare that affects what you can comfortably do next. Ask your provider explicitly what to expect before you commit to a packed schedule around it.
  • Share your full itinerary and flight date with your provider. This is especially important for Day 4. Your provider needs to know your departure date and what else you have planned in order to advise on whether the timing is appropriate for you.
  • Keep a flexible alternative for each beauty day. If an appointment is cancelled or rescheduled, you should have a non-appointment version of that day ready — a neighbourhood walk, a museum, a market. Day 5 in this itinerary exists partly for this reason.

SeoulBeautyTrip provides English enquiry support to help you communicate with providers before you travel. This is not a booking guarantee or a medical referral. Compare current profiles, then confirm your dates, preferred service and practical questions directly with the provider through the Seoul provider directory.

Day 1: Jongno Historic Core

Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon Hanok Village and Insadong / Ikseon-dong

Seoul Tourism groups Gyeongbokgung Palace, Bukchon Hanok Village and Insadong together as central historic attractions, and the geography supports starting here.

Morning: Gyeongbokgung Palace is a logical anchor. Arrive when it opens to make the most of the grounds before crowds build. The changing of the royal guard ceremony takes place at the main gate and is worth timing your arrival around — check the official schedule on the day.

Afternoon: The hanok lanes of Bukchon are a short walk north-east of the palace and reward a slower pace. Move down into Insadong for traditional craft shops and tea houses, then cut across to Ikseon-dong, a smaller alley district where older architecture sits alongside independent cafes and boutiques.

Evening: Stay in the Jongno area for dinner. The neighbourhood has a wide range of traditional Korean restaurants and is well-connected by subway if you want to move on.

This day is intentionally light on logistics. You are arriving into the trip, possibly adjusting to a time difference, and the Jongno area rewards walking rather than rushing.

Day 2: Myeongdong and Namsan

Shopping, street food and an optional non-clinical beauty stop

Morning: Myeongdong is one of Seoul's best-known shopping areas and has many cosmetics and skincare stores within a walkable district. It is a practical morning for comparing products you researched before the trip while keeping the rest of the day close to Namsan.

Afternoon: If you want a beauty experience rather than just shopping, you can request a nail or brow-shaping appointment in the area and confirm the exact service, duration and availability before building the afternoon around it. Myeongdong and N Seoul Tower can also be combined in one route; see our N Seoul Tower and Myeongdong one-day itinerary for source-checked access options and operating details.

Evening: Return to Myeongdong after Namsan for dinner or any shopping you postponed. Keeping the evening in the same district also gives you a simple backup if weather changes the Namsan plan.

Day 3: Hongdae or Seongsu — Choose One

Creative districts and an optional head spa or salon reservation

These two neighbourhoods are both worth visiting, but they are on opposite sides of the city. Trying to cover both in a single day means spending a significant portion of it on the subway. Choose one as your primary destination.

Hongdae is described by Seoul Tourism as a music, art and nightlife area centred on Hongik University Station, accessible via Line 2, the Gyeongui-Jungang Line and the Airport Railroad. It is energetic during the day and more so in the evening, with independent fashion, live street performance and a high concentration of cafes. It is a good choice if you want atmosphere and browsing over a structured agenda.

Seongsu is described by Seoul Tourism as an evolving creative district with cafes, flagship stores, pop-ups and beauty experiences. It has become a destination for beauty and lifestyle brands running experiential spaces, which makes it a relevant choice if beauty experiences are a priority for this trip.

Morning: Arrive early to explore the neighbourhood before it fills up. Both districts have good independent coffee options for a slow start.

Afternoon: Either district is a reasonable location for a head spa or salon appointment. Our Korean head spa Seoul guide covers what the service involves and what to look for when comparing providers.

Evening: If nightlife and live street culture are priorities, continue in Hongdae. If you chose Seongsu, use the evening as an open block and check the current closing time of any specific shop or pop-up before travelling.

Day 4: Gangnam — One Pre-Booked Track

COEX, Bongeunsa and a focused beauty or wellness consultation

Gangnam can work as a dedicated consultation day when the provider and timing suit your trip. The COEX complex — described by Seoul Tourism as a convention, exhibition and shopping complex between Samseong and Bongeunsa stations — gives you an indoor alternative for the parts of the day that are not appointment-related. Bongeunsa Temple, across from COEX, offers a quieter counterpoint to the surrounding commercial district.

Morning: Use this block for your appointment if it is scheduled early, or explore Bongeunsa and the COEX area before an afternoon slot.

Afternoon: If your appointment falls here, keep the rest of the afternoon open. Do not plan intensive sightseeing immediately after a clinical appointment without first asking your provider what to expect.

Evening: The Gangnam area has a wide range of restaurants. Keep the evening relaxed, particularly if you have had a clinical appointment during the day.

For the appointment itself, choose one of the following tracks and discuss the timing with your provider before confirming. Tell your provider your flight date and your full itinerary so they can advise whether Day 4 is appropriate for you specifically.

  • Skin clinic consultation: Suitable for visitors interested in treatments such as laser, peels or injectables. Requires a provider consultation before any procedure is agreed. See our Seoul skin clinic directory for international visitors guide for what to expect from the process.
  • Dental consultation: Suitable for visitors considering cosmetic or general dental work. Treatment plans and timelines vary significantly by procedure. Our Seoul dental clinics for foreigners guide covers how to approach the initial enquiry.
  • Korean medicine consultation: For visitors who want to ask a licensed Korean medicine practitioner about listed services such as acupuncture or herbal medicine. See our Korean medicine clinics Seoul guide for questions to prepare before an enquiry.

If your dates are fixed, send the enquiry in advance and wait for provider confirmation before treating the slot as booked. The current provider directory can help you check the right profile before sending your questions.

Day 5: Flexible Buffer

Follow-up, museums, the Han River or a final neighbourhood

The fifth day in this 5-day Seoul itinerary is deliberately unscheduled. It serves several functions: a follow-up appointment if your Day 4 provider specifically recommends one, a weather backup if an outdoor plan earlier in the week was rained out, a return to a neighbourhood you wanted more time in, or a calm morning before an afternoon or evening departure.

If you have no beauty appointments on Day 5 — which is the default — here are three useful alternatives.

  • National Museum of Korea: Use its official visitor page to check current exhibitions, admission details and access before travelling.
  • Leeum Museum of Art: Check its official reservation and exhibition information before adding it to the day.
  • Han River parks: A low-effort option for a final morning if the weather is good. Yeouido Hangang Park and Ttukseom Hangang Park are both accessible by subway and popular with locals for cycling, picnicking and river views.
  • DMZ day trip: Treat this as a full-day replacement rather than a spare-morning activity. Review the current access and operator requirements in the DMZ tour from Seoul guide before booking.

Where to Stay in Seoul

Rather than ranking areas, here is how each base affects this itinerary.

  • Myeongdong / Jung-gu: Convenient for Days 1 and 2; adds travel time to Gangnam on Day 4. Well-connected by subway to all areas in this itinerary.
  • Gangnam / Seocho: Convenient for Day 4; adds travel time to the Jongno historic core on Day 1. A practical base if a clinical appointment is your primary reason for visiting.
  • Hongdae / Mapo: Convenient for Day 3 if you choose Hongdae; adds travel time to Gangnam. The Airport Railroad connection at Hongik University Station is useful for early departures from Incheon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is five days enough for Seoul?

For a first visit, yes. Five days covers the neighbourhoods most visitors want to see, leaves room for one focused beauty or wellness day, and still allows a buffer for weather, jet lag or a slow morning. You will not see everything — Seoul is a large city — but you will leave with a coherent experience rather than a checklist of half-visited places.

Can I use this itinerary without booking any beauty services?

Yes. Every day in this guide has a full sightseeing programme that stands on its own. The beauty and wellness options are additions, not requirements. If you skip all appointments, Day 4 becomes a straightforward Gangnam sightseeing day centred on COEX and Bongeunsa, and Day 5 becomes a free day for museums or the Han River.

When should I schedule a clinic or dental visit?

This depends on the service, your health information and what the provider advises. Day 4 is only a planning placeholder, not a recommendation that every procedure belongs there. Share your flight date and full itinerary before confirming; move or omit the appointment if the provider says the timing is unsuitable. Keeping Day 5 flexible leaves room for a provider-recommended follow-up or an ordinary sightseeing day.
